About me

Andy is currently a working artist living in Den Haag, Netherlands. His latest artistic venture is a picture based book, which will bring forward the rich visual imagery and the intriguing social atmosphere of the Dutch coffeeshops.

Andy holds a BS degree in Business Administration/ Marketing. He attended Mercy College, located in Dobbs Ferry New York where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He has held previous positions in marketing where he was engaged in the creative development of commercial marketing literature and in writing and submitting government proposals.

Supported by a lifelong interest and study in the creative arts, Andy has found an inspiring and receptive environment here in the Netherlands. It is through a long road of personal achievements in art and education that has Andy marketing his latest effort.

Hello I'm Andy Wolf. I'm currently seeking representation for my book – The Coffeeshops of Amsterdam. The project consists of original artwork showing Amsterdam's coffeeshops and their patrons, together with copy describing the activities and experiences found in Amsterdam's soft drug culture.

Years ago I developed an enthusiasm for the Dutch coffeeshops during my sketch sessions in them. Initially these outings were a way to relax and take a break from my more formal art obligations. While sketching and relaxing I became aware of the unique environment I was surrounded by.

Spending time sketching in the coffeeshops of Amsterdam and throughout the Netherlands allowed me to witness and visually capture what takes place within them. The sketches began to reveal many types of customers socializing amidst the smoke, sharing stories and laughs together.

There was no need to search any further, I had found a treasure trove of subject matter. Working furiously, the artwork which was being produced began to capture the interesting and often 'other worldly' interiors and the colorful customers of the coffeeshops. I was exposed to an international cast of characters whose conversations ranged from questions about the soft drugs on the menu to the often wild events occurring in their home countries. The artwork, it seemed had another facet which would have to be displayed in words.

This blog showcases a sample of the artwork and copy I have produced in an effort to have this compiled material published.

There have been many recent developments in the world of coffeeshops, notably the separation of alcohol sales and soft drug sales in the same location, and the tobacco smoking ban. My Dutch friends assure me that Holland will not do away with its coffeeshops, let us cherish this thought.
